“See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Read: Psalm 139:24
In this psalm, the poet asks the Lord to watch over him and to make sure that he does not end up on a wrong path and to lead him in the right way. Sometimes, we accidentally end up on the wrong road. Shortly after my husband and I were married, we took a shortcut through the Karoo on our way from Bloemfontein to Cape Town. We got so lost that we ended up driving about twice the distance of the main road. And, this is just because we refused to turn around. We thought that we would find our way back to the main road at any moment.
The best thing to do when you discover that you are on a wrong road is to pray immediately and turn around. In doing so, you will save yourself a great deal of time and effort in the long run. The same is true of your path through life. You often end up on side roads which seemed like short cuts to you, but which can turn out to be costly mistakes. When this happens, the Lord often warns you through His Holy Spirit. You have probably heard a little voice warning you that you are busy with the wrong things.
When you don’t pay enough attention to your quiet time with God or when you don’t set aside enough time for God or spend enough time reading the Bible and praying, you can be sure that you are on the wrong path. Turn back, because the only place where you will be truly happy is on God’s path.
Pray: Heavenly Father, I pray that You will clearly show me when I take a wrong turn and make me willing to turn back immediately. Amen.
